The Cops Are Cracking Down On Shoplifters For Getting Sneaky At Self-Service Check-Outs
Consider yourself warned.
Looks like your days of “accidentally” scanning your avocados as onions are officially at an end. The NSW police have revealed that they will be targeting shoplifters over summer, running a number of “proactive operations” involving the use of undercover officers and hidden cameras.

The announcement came via a Facebook Live event held outside a Coles in Sydney, thus making it the second strangest thing that the NSW cops did on social media today.

A somewhat uncomfortable looking detective superintendent by the name of Murray Chapman told the assembled media that “even if it is the avocado and you think you’re saving $2, it’s still shoplifting.”
“It’s still stealing, it’s still a crime and if we catch you, or you get caught, you will be charged.”
A Coles spokesperson said that the supermarket chain had experienced a “substantial number” of shoplifting incidents involving self-service checkouts.
