‘Black Panther’ Director Ryan Coogler Is Teaming Up With LeBron James On A ‘Space Jam’ Sequel
Welcome to the jam.
Look, I’m not going to lie: I was already pretty excited for the Space Jam sequel. But now Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is on board, it might just be my most anticipated film of all time.
Coogler has been confirmed as a producer on the untitled sequel, which is set to star NBA icon LeBron James alongside The Looney Tunes. The film will be directed by Terence Nance, whose directorial debut An Oversimplification of Her Beauty also combined live action with animation.
James’ production company, SpringHill Entertainment, confirmed Coogler’s involvement via Instagram.
James also spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, telling the publication that he loved Coogler’s work on Black Panther.
“I loved his vision,” said the basketballer. “The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie … I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”
The Space Jam sequel is expected to go into production in 2019.
