Gawk In Horror At This Footage Of A Doctor Removing 23 Crusty Contacts From A Woman’s Eye
Taking my own contacts out because I've seen enough.
In news that has me scratching at my cornea and overthinking every contact lens I’ve ever worn, a Californian eye doctor has released footage of the moment she removed 23 old, crusty contacts from a woman’s eye.
We all know that you shouldn’t sleep in contacts, and yet? After a few too many glasses of champagne I absolutely still do it — and I know you do too, you disgusting little gremlins, so stop lying to yourself. But do you know what I do first thing the next morning? Take those puppies out and let my eyes breathe a deep sigh of relief.
But it turns out not everybody is like me, and one woman in California ended up with 23 contacts — all of which were an unholy shade of green — stuck in her eyelid. Nightmare fuel, honestly.
Dr Katerina Kurteeva, an ophthalmologist at California Eye Associates has detailed the moment she removed the crusty contact mound from this woman’s eyeball.
The woman in her 70s came to the clinic complaining of a sore eye and was convinced there was something stuck in there (spoiler alert: there was). While her vision had been blurry for a while, she only sought medical attention when it got painful.
“When I asked her to look down, I could see the edges of a couple of contacts stuck to each other. Pulling them out, I felt like I could still see more and asked my assistant to get my phone to record the removal,” Kurteeva told Business Insider.
“Asking the patient to look down again, I could see a huge, dark-purple blob of contact lenses stuck to her eye. It almost looked like a second pupil. I gently started using a Q-tip to peel the lenses apart one by one, like you would deal a deck of cards. They were coming out in a chain, drooping down her lid. There were a lot of contact lenses — I thought this could be my Guinness Book of World Record moment.”
“In nearly 20 years of practice, I had never seen anything like it,” said Kurteeva.
She posted footage of the ordeal to her Instagram, but watch this video at your own risk. Do not complain to me if you feel too scared to ever wear contacts again.
