Clive Palmer’s feud with 80s hair metal band Twisted Sister has escalated, with the Queensland mining magnate and former MP challenging to the group to a “sing-off” to settle a potential legal dispute over his unauthorised use of their iconic hit ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’.

The band hit out at Palmer on social media last week over a campaign ad for his revamped political party featuring a reworked version of the 1984 track with the lyrics “Australia ain’t gonna cop it”. When frontman Dee Snider said the band did not endorse Palmer and would be contacting their legal team, Palmer responded by threatening legal action of his own, saying “as foreigners, they should stay out of Australian domestic politics and stay where they are”.

The pair have continued to trade barbs on Twitter, with Snider calling Palmer an “idiot” and Palmer saying Snider should have his visa cancelled ahead of his upcoming Australian tour. But on Wednesday Palmer appeared to have a sudden change of heart, tweeting that he would love to join Snider on stage “for a sing-off of my ‘Australia’s Not Gonna Cop It’ and his version so fans can decide which one they like best”.

Don’t mean to be a dream killer, Clive, but I’m pretty sure I know how that would go.

Snider responded by joking that he knew the Palmer must have been a “closet fan” before calling him a “thief”, a “lowlife” and a “charlatan”.
