Please Enjoy Client Liaison’s Story About Their Totally Chaotic First Gig

It was a one-piece themed party in a Melbourne terrace house, because of course.

The Client Liaison origin story is, to be honest, exactly as you’d imagine.

The band of ironised, ’80s throwback pop weirdos performed their first show at a house party, before they’d even released their music to the general public. Oh, and dress code for that party? All one-piece outfits. The venue? A terrace house in Melbourne. Like I say: couldn’t get more Client Liaison if you tried.

“We set up our gear in the corner, and it was this pitch black room,” vocalist Monte Morgan explained in a video interview with Music Junkee as part of The Artist Alphabet series, where musicians are invited to reveal their most private and surprising stories. “We both had our one-pieces on.”

“I was playing keys made of micro-cork,” keyboard player Harvey Miller revealed, wearing a ‘MATH’ cap, presumably in (ironic?) support of failed democratic nominee for President Andrew Yang. “We played four songs. And it pumped.”

“I think if we hadn’t have played that song, Client Liaison wouldn’t exist,” Morgan said. “It actually gave us some wind in our sails. We were like, ‘Aahh, people actually enjoy this, it’s worth getting it out there.’ So from then on, we’ve always used the live show as an impetus to get things done.”

Elsewhere in the chat, the bandmembers discussed getting extremely stoned at a gig, and hanging with superstar music producer Nick Littlemore. Watch the whole wonderful exchange in full below:
