Tony Abbott’s Sister Is Perfectly Trolling Her Brother On Marriage Equality
"Vote yes."

In a bid to remain relevant at the expense of LGBTIQ+ Australians, former PM Tony Abbott has already started campaigning for a “no” vote in a potential postal plebiscite on marriage equality. Today, his sister Christine Forster appears to be trolling him on Twitter, hitting back with a series of tweets directly countering Tony’s rubbish campaign.
When old mate Tone took to the media yesterday to list a series of reasons for people to vote no on marriage equality, he helpfully arranged his scare tactics in an “if you think (bigoted thing X), vote (X)” format. This made it extremely easy to just substitute (bigoted thing X) for opinions worth actually having, in order to construct a much more persuasive “yes” campaign. Which is exactly what Christine has done.
Here’s Tony’s original list: “And I say to you if you don’t like same-sex marriage, vote no. If you’re worried about religious freedom and freedom of speech, vote no, and if you don’t like political correctness, vote no because voting no will help to stop political correctness in its tracks.”
And here’s Christine on Twitter this morning:
If you value mutual respect: vote yes. If you want all Australians to be equal: vote yes. If you believe in free speech: vote yes #auspol

If this is about the people: vote yes #marriageequality #auspol

If you want the person you love to be in every sense a part of your family: vote yes #marriageequality #auspol

If you don't believe your relationships (or anyone else's) are second rate: vote yes #marriageequality #auspol

If you believe your own marriage is a good thing: vote yes! #marriageequality #auspol

Christine has been very open about the fact that as a gay Liberal Councillor, her party’s (not to mention her brother’s) approach to her human rights has been very, very tough.
As someone who has been waiting years to marry @surryhillsgal under Australian law, this morning is just plain depressing #marriageequality

It’s nice, then, to see her own her idiot brother online. We can only hope he — along with all the people actively campaigning against their family members’ rights at the moment — will pull his finger out and actually listen.
