Chris Brown has been released from custody in Paris after he was detained following a rape allegation. French police now have two days to decide if he will be formally charged.
The AP is reporting that Brown was detained by French police, alongside his bodyguard and another associate, after a woman filed an aggravated rape complaint against him.
The woman said she met Brown and the two men on January 15 at Le Crystal club, near the Champs-Elysees. She then says they went to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
The men are also being held over drug infractions. Paris police have another day to let them go, or file charges.
On Instagram, Brown has denied the allegation with a photo of text that says, “This B!tch Lyin'”. In the caption, he elaborates: “I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR…… THIS IS FALSE AND A WHOLE LOT OF CAP! NNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!! FOR MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO DISPRESPECTFUL AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!!”
In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault against his then-girlfriend Rihanna, but he’s also had a spate of accusations and legal issues since.
Last year alone, he was sued by a woman who claimed she was raped at Brown’s home by another man and held against her will; he was arrested in July for battery for a 2017 incident in a nightclub in Tampa; and in December he was charged over illegal possession of a pet monkey. He could face up to six months in jail for the last one.
Additionally, in 2013, he was charged with a misdemeanor assault against a man, and subsequently was kicked out of the rehab he was legally forced to attend. In 2016, he was also arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman with a gun.
