Remember Cheer? The Netflix reality show about the Navarro College cheerleading squad that was all anyone could watch in January 2020 before the world imploded? Well, it’s coming back.

Netflix has just dropped the trailer for the second season of the wildly popular show. It’s still following the trials and tribulations of the Navarro group, and will feature many of the cast members of Season 1 — including Gabi Butler, Lexi Brumback, La’Darius Marshall, Morgan Simianer, and the hard-as-nails coach Monica Aldama.

One notable missing member is Jerry Harris, who was arrested for multiple sexual misconduct charges in 2020 — including soliciting child pornography and four counts of enticing a minor to engage in sexual conduct. The second season will contend with the situation — in the trailer, Aldama says “I can’t even process it”, referring to the charges, and Netflix has reportedly stated the two boys who first spoke up about Harris are interviewed in an episode.

“I was floored and heartbroken,” said Cheer director Greg Whiteley in a press release about Harris. “I tried to unpack what it was that I was feeling. Here was a person that I felt like I knew very, very well. But then there was news that led me to believe I didn’t know everything about this person and that led to, in a weird way, me mourning the passing of the person that I thought I knew.”

But mostly, it seems the season will focus on the fierce rivalry between Navarro and Trinity Valley college — which is being led by former NFL star Vontae Johnson — and the battle for the 2021 Daytona Championship.

The full season will be landing on Netflix on January 12. Watch the full trailer below.
