The Chats — the Brisbane band behind ‘Smoko’ and ‘Pub Feed’ — are back at it again, releasing a video for ‘Identity Theft’, a new song about buying pingaz online and getting a little more than you bargained for.

After taking their specific blend of grotty Australiana across the globe last year — and earning shout-outs from Josh Homme and Miguel, no less — the trio has today released an instant Chats classic of garage-grunge rock and scream-sung tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Fair enough: There’s a lot to scream about when hackers steal your cash and catch you jerking off through your webcam.

The video’s exactly what you want from The Chats. It’s a dumb, fun Tron-like journey through the dark web, where mullet-loving lead singer Eamon Sandwith is sucked into the web and runs around chasing Anonymous hackers and avoiding cops after being framed for a robbery.

There’s even an extended Guitar Hero sequence. Look, watching it makes it all make sense.

The Chats have announced a national tour for the song too, with stops this September and October all across Australia, from Hobart to Perth, Goondiwindi to Byron Bay. Find more details on The Chats’ website.
