Channel Seven’s New Show Is All About Celebrities Jumping Into Swimming Pools
Somehow hoping for the opposite of a ratings dive (zing!).
Celebrities: they’re just like us. They dance (Dancing With The Stars), they cook (Celebrity Masterchef), they pitch business ideas to rich investors (Celebrity Apprentice), and they dive (wait, what?).
Those creative minds at Channel Seven have just announced the cast for their brand new series, Celebrity Splash, a program based on an unlikely Dutch hit that sees celebrities take on the wild world of professional diving in front of a weekly poolside audience. “There will be thrills, spills, and no doubt a few panic attacks when our 14 celebrities take to the diving boards,” says the official press release in what will probably be the silliest thing you’ll read all day.
Already a modest success throughout the UK and Europe (the US version, which is due to premiere overnight, features a cast of legends such as former pro-basketballer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Playboy starlet Kendra Wilkinson, the kid that played Rudy Huxtable on The Cosby Show and Baywatch/Charles In Charge alumni, Nicole Eggert), the local celeb lineup is set to feature an all-star spread including TV legend Denise Drysdale, Miss Universe Australia Renae Ayris, comedian Josh Thomas, and socialite (that’s what she does?) Brynne Edelsten.
As odd as this sounds, we’re kinda interested in the gory possibilities of a misplaced entry. Surely an “armstand back double somersault tuck” must be difficult for a beginner to pull off without painting the pool red with their own innards? Dear God, please don’t let Denise Drysdale die on television.
Check out the rest of the Aussie cast below, plus a ridiculous promo clip from the US version so you know what sorta nonsense to expect when the show airs locally later in the year.
