I regret to inform you that inflation has finally hit us where it hurts: Bunnings has announced it will increase its beloved sausage sizzle prices for the first time in 15 years.

A Saturday morning sausage sizzle while you’re impulse-buying your 23rd house plant will now cost you $3.50, up a whole dollar from its usual price of $2.50. But, as always, the money is going to local community groups and charities.

According to Bunnings, the decision comes after extensive feedback from community groups, who use the opportunity as a fundraiser.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult couple of years with the lack of fundraising opportunities and the pressure on community group services and support continues to be a growing need in our wider community,” said Bunnings Group managing director Mike Schneider in a statement.

“The sausage sizzle will always be a community-led initiative and we have listened and responded in a way we hope allows groups to maximise fundraising efforts, whilst still giving customers a simple way to support their local community.”

With the rising cost of goods, it’s not hard to see why community groups would have to increase prices in order to make the fundraiser worth the time it takes volunteers.

But thankfully, onions and sauce will continue to be free, while cold drinks will keep their price of $1.50.

The new prices kick in on Saturday, July 23 across the country, so you’ve still got one more weekend to snag a cheap lunch while doing your weekend errands.

In the last five years, Bunnings has reportedly helped raise more than $140 million for charities and community groups across the country.
