Britney Spears’ Memoir Has A Release Date, And I’m Shaking You Guys
Why does this feel too good to be true?
Britney Spears has officially announced her memoir The Woman In Me will officially drop on October 24. But as someone who deeply adores Britney Spears and bathes in her music almost every day, I’m terrified.
I’m not scared of what she’ll say — in fact I want Britney to go in on the people who kept her in an alleged system of abuse and mistreated her. But I’m scared the whole thing is just another cash grab from Britney’s camp.
Speaking of money, we’re being reminded that Spears’ book deal came with a $15 million advance. If this figure is legit, it would make this one of the most lucrative book details of all time.
In fact, that figure would reportedly make Britney’s book deal more lucrative than authors that include Pope John Paul II (I had no idea he had a memoir but slay that Britney Spears’ memoir is worth more than a figurehead of the world’s largest religion), Bruce Springsteen, and Hillary Clinton.
Of course this amount of money would be a huge win for Britney, especially after a 13-year conservatorship meant that she had no control over her finances. But is it money that Britney will actually see?
Yes, the conservatorship has come to an end but that doesn’t mean that Britney has complete control of her finances. I obviously have no proof of this but there’s also no proof to the contrary, so as you can imagine I’m freaking the hell out.
Admittedly, I could be overreacting. But at this point, can you blame me? The #FreeBritney saga has been a rollercoaster, and at this point I still don’t know what to believe.
But if we assume everything is above board, and the memoir really is a complete “tell-all” then I assume she’d name drop and expose a lot of different people in the industry and her family. How would that work? Wouldn’t those people swiftly sue for defamation, or at least fight to have their names removed?
In 2021, Britney memorably told her sister and father to “eat shit and step on legos”, and this is exactly the kind of unfiltered energy I want from this book. But in the case of a woman who has had so much of her autonomy taken away from her, it all feels too good for true.
All I hope is that Britney has actually been able to use her voice, and that this memoir will be coming from her.
I’ll believe it when I read it — and I will obviously be reading it.
