Wemba Wemba teenager Breanna Lee Wilson has stolen hearts everywhere, auditioning in her traditional language on Australia’s Got Talent.

Despite a rocky restart, the 16-year-old stepped up to the stage and blew away the judges with a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘True Colours’. But Wilson truly stole the show during the chorus which she sang in traditional Wemba Wemba.

Wilson wore her heart on her sleeve too, dressed in Clothing the Gaps’ iconic ‘always was, always will be’ shirt — with the shorts to match.

The Season 10 judges, David Walliams, Kate Ritchie, Alesha Dixon, and Shane Jacobsen — along with the entire studio audience — gave Wilson a well-deserved standing ovation.

“I want to show other Indigenous kids that they can put their culture into language and make their elders proud,” she said through tears, speaking with the judges and host Ricki-Lee after her audition.

Her performance also saw her receive one of the show’s highest honours, the Golden Buzzer. When hit by the judges, the Golden Buzzer guarantees a contestant a spot in the semi-final. Unsurprisingly, Wilson was beaming as the gold confetti fell around her.

Wilson is the second First Nations contestant on Australia’s Got Talent to receive the Golden Buzzer. The first was singer, Didgeridoo player and dancer, Mitch Tambo receiving it in the season prior in 2019.

A Melbourne local, Wilson’s foster dad and brother cheered her on from backstage.  Her brother shouted encouragement, “come on, lessgo” when Wilson’s nerves made her stop and restart the audition.

“You are so brave, it was such a beautiful performance. I was so impressed the way you got back on that horse, it was incredible,” praised judge David Walliams.

Despite Wilson’s anxiety and tears, it’s safe to say the proud Aboriginal singer ensured there wasn’t a dry eye in the house by the time she was done.
