Really, this whole chef thing is getting ridiculous.

Chefs, they’re all the rage at the moment. Once recognised solely by food nerds and other chefs and hospitality staff, they’ve since been elevated to superstar status, people who we turn to for amusingly cold-hearted entertainment and whose comings-and-goings we follow with bated breath (and sure, why not, who doesn’t wanna know which movies Momofuku’s David Chang has recently watched, or what kinda shoes Mission Chinese Food’s Danny Bowien is currently wearing?).

It makes sense then, given our ever-increasing obsession with fine food and the people who make it, that Hollywood would tap into this zeitgeist-y trend. Well, today comes news that not one BUT TWO upcoming big-budget projects about the inner-workings of arrogant chefs are currently in the works, because Hollywood and originality are as successful a mix as asparagus and merlot.

Firstly, Bradley Cooper has signed on to star in the upcoming film Chef, where he’ll play a chef named Adam Jones, who goes from humble Parisian kitchen wunderkind to drug-addled nutjob. The film follows his redemption story, as he attempts to sober-up and return to Paris to lead his restaurant towards three Michelin stars. As some of you may be aware, this won’t be the first time Bradley Cooper plays a chef; in 2005, he starred as Jack Bourdain in the short-lived sitcom bomb, Kitchen Confidential, based on Anthony Bourdain’s bestselling novel. It had this incredibly lame theme song:

Secondly, in a predictably confusing Hollywood twist, director Jon Favreau is working on another film, also currently titled Chef — a  comedy about an emotional chef who gets fired from his Los Angeles restaurant, loses his family, and tries to win them and his reputation back by starting a food truck business (oh geez) — which is set to star Robert Downey, Jr and his The Avengers co-star Scarlett Johansson as his restaurant’s manager/potential love interest.

Sony Pictures, who are behind Cooper’s Chef have since sent a cease-and-desist letter to Favreau and Fairview Entertainment to find a new title. In other words, this could get ugly (#kitchennightmares). So, anyway, get ready for more Chefs than you can handle. In related news, I’m hungry.
