There’s A Whole Lot Of Talk About Scissoring In The Raunchy First ‘Booksmart’ Trailer
The film has been described as a feminist spin on 'Superbad'.
For years, the horny teen comedy has been a sub-genre almost exclusively dominated by men. But now it looks like the reign of sweaty, testerone-swollen frat boys is over, thanks to Olivia Wilde’s forthcoming — and supremely horny — directorial debut Booksmart.
Yep, although teen sex comedies like American Pie, Superbad and Porky’s Revenge, the first film to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize (maybe), have been cum-splattered excesses in unchecked masculinity and misogyny, Booksmart aims to reverse that trend. While Superbad has its hundreds of drawings of dicks and American Pie has its pastry fucking, Booksmart is stuffed with prolonged discussions about scissoring, handjobs and mace.
First things first — that’s an impressively stacked cast. Beanie Feldstein, Jonah Hill’s real life sister and the scene-stealing ex-best friend in Lady Bird, is taking on co-lead duties along with Kaitlyn Dever of Last Man Standing. Then there’s the comedy alumni around them: Jason Sudeikis, Lisa Kudrow and Will Forte are all set to make appearances, adding some real clout to the picture.
Oh, and the whole thing so happens to be executive produced by two folks ya might have heard of — Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, the latter being the director of Objectively The Greatest Comedy of The Last 20 Years, Step Brothers.
The ‘two nerdy friends go on a bender’ plot isn’t exactly original, of course — it’s basically Superbad — but the extremities Booksmart appears to be pushing make it very exciting indeed.
me: don’t be seduced by festival hype. everyone likes everything at festivals. you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment.
booksmart:
me: I AM DESTINED TO LOVE THIS MOVIE. A FUTURE CLASSIC. A MASTERPIECE. OLIVIA WILDE IS AN A U T E U R.

It’s worth noting that Booksmart is dropping in the same year as Good Boys, a weird sex comedy starring children. Hell, both trailers even feature the same song — Run The Jewels and DJ Shadow’s ‘Nobody Speak’.
So yeah, if you’re horny for raunchy cinema (as I know that you are), looks like 2019 is going to be your year.
Booksmart is releasing in the States on May 24. Stay tuned for news on an Australian release.
