Bindi Irwin Just Became The Most Hated Person In America, Possibly The World
Yeah, this was probably not the best idea.
Hey, you know what’s probably not the greatest idea? Publicly aligning yourself with SeaWorld, at a time when the rest of the world is ready to burn its torturous walls down, following the convincing success of eco-doco, Blackfish. Unfortunately, Bindi Irwin’s people failed to pass on the memo, and now she’s a public pariah.
Overnight, the 15-year-old wildlife kid, her mum Terri and her little bro Bob appeared on Good Morning America to announce their new collaboration with the controversial marine park, which has been hit with freefalling attendance, social media protests and financial losses after Blackfish revealed the extent of its mistreatment of orcas.
“I’m so excited to be carrying on in Dad’s footsteps and making sure that everything he worked so hard for continues for the generations to come,” said Bindi, before urging kids to log-on to SeaWorld’s new kids’ site, which, oh boy.
As you can imagine, the announcement led to instant criticism on Twitter.

How much do you think #SeaWorld had to pay Bindi Irwin to try to fix their image? #Notworking

Doubt that Steve would approve @BindiIrwin doing PR for #Seaworld “@OrcaSOS: #SeaShepherd ship *is* named after crocodile hunter Steve Irwin

You’re supposed to be the voice of the voiceless – not the turd who condones animal capture and abuse @BindiIrwin #seaworld

The Irwin family’s yet to respond to the criticisms, probably because they’re busy at home watching a downloaded copy of Blackfish and wondering what the hell they just got themselves into. It pays to read the news, kids!
