Bob Odenkirk returns as Saul Goodman for the final season of Better Call Saul, bringing an end to the Breaking Bad prequel, and resolving the wayward lawyer’s fate.
The long wait is nearly over for Better Call Saul fans, with an official trailer dropping for the final season of the criminally underrated prequel, which airs April 18.
Season 6 of Better Call Saul serves as the conclusion to the origin story of Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad. With parts of the show set after the events of Breaking Bad, the conclusion of Better Call Saul also promises to give fans precious closure about the fates of some key characters.
I’m heavily invested in the fates of some of the minor characters who don’t make an appearance in Breaking Bad, such as Nacho Varga (Michael Mando) who appears to be fighting for his life in the Season 6 trailer.
The fate of Saul’s love interest and legal partner Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) is also up in the air. Kim’s shifting moral landscape has been signposted throughout the show, and is addressed immediately in the new trailer, with Kim asking “You ever feel like you’re being followed?” and Saul replying, “Well, you know what they say: The wicked flee when no man pursueth”.
Season 6 also sees the return of Breaking Bad showrunner Vince Gilligan to the writer’s room, who has been absent from Better Call Saul since Season 3. Bob Odenkirk said that Gilligan’s involvement in the final season will see the show going into “overdrive”.
“If you remember Breaking Bad there was so much that built up and then in the last season [Gilligan] starts knocking things down and starts lighting fires and burning everything down – and that’s what’s happening here.” Odenkirk said in an interview with Esquire.
The production of the final season was originally scheduled for 2020, but was held up by significantly by COVID-19. Bob Odenkirk also suffered a heart attack on set but survived thanks to the efforts of his co-workers and an on-site medic.
Better Call Saul season six airs April 18 on Stan.
