9 Games You Can Master In The Space Of A Few Days

So many games, so much time to play.

Best Games To Play When You're Stuck At Home Over A Long Weekend
Brought to you by Captain Morgan

Captain Morgan is Junkee's new Captain of Culture and he's about to make some captain's calls about everything you love.

Out on the high seas, every day might as well be a weekend. Normally me and my swashbuckling crew spend ours with nothing but the wind in our hair and the smell of salt in the air, but recently we’ve been taken by one of your most peculiar novelties: video games.

Arrr, how to describe video games? They’re like movies but you control what happens. Shiver me timbers, what a concept!

Well mateys, with all the free time I’ve had lately, I plundered a treasure trove of video games and found the ones that are worth their weight in treasure.

From my crew to yours, here are the best games that any landlubber can enjoy!

#1 League of Legends

I recently learned there are more than a hundred champions to play in this game and was aghast – why would you play as anyone other than the pirate Gangplank? Take ye pick, though, and join your mates in Summoner’s Rift fighting against enemy champions and their scoundrel minions to destroy the other team’s base.

Play it for free on PC.

#2 Final Fantasy VII Remake

If ye missed yer chance to play this masterpiece, never fear! Some scallywags would say the remake is even better. Relive the first part of the original game plus a treasure chest’s worth of new content as you battle against an evil company that wants to drain the planet’s life essence and use it as an energy source. If it’s not solar or wind power, we don’t want to know about it.

Play it on PlayStation 4.

#3 Overwatch

Team up with your friends and dream up bold strategies to win this 6v6 multiplayer game. You can play as a quirky cast of characters like a hamster in a mechanic wrecking ball, a cowboy with a robot butler, or (my personal favourite) an Aussie larrikin who shoots mini cannonballs and is obsessed with gold – what else can I say about this perfect game?

Play it on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

#4 World of Warcraft

Pledge allegiance to the Alliance or the Horde and embark on epic adventures across Azeroth facing demons, gods, dragons, and other scoundrel humans. There be plenty to do besides fighting and raiding: settle in at a tavern, explore with your friends, or even go fishing. That’s the life.

Play it on PC.

#5 Apex Legends

There be many battle royale games available now, but Apex Legends is my pick of the lot. Choose from thirteen legends to play as, each with their own special powers and abilities, and work in teams of three to be the last ones standing. Now I chase my next victory as hard as I chase the horizon, collecting just as much loot along the way, too.

Play it for free on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

#6 NBA 2K20

If I were to pick a sport to play on solid ground, it’d be basketball. At least I can live out my dreams of being a big shot like LeBron in NBA 2K20’s career mode. The game has all my favourite players, like Anthony Davis and Ben Simmons, and even lets me scan me own face into the game to create a player with my devilish good looks.

Play it on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

#7 The Elder Scrolls Online

If ye have ever wandered the game worlds of Vvardenfell, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim, you’ll know plenty about how alluring the Elder Scrolls games are. That’s just as true for the MMO, which lets you explore the massive continent of Tamriel causing mayhem or saving the day. You can even design your own house, if your virtual dream is to settle down somewhere nice.

Play it on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

#8 Hearthstone

Build a deck of minions, spells, quests, and heroes and use them to outwit your opponent in this fast-paced strategy card game. It’s set in the same universe as World of Warcraft, so you’ll spot plenty of familiar faces. I’ve spent many a night playing cards with my crew and, to my delight, now I can challenge opponents from all over the world to a few rounds.

Play it for free on PC.

#9 Destiny 2

There’s so much loot in this game, it’s a pirate’s dream come true. Team up with a crew of mates to complete raids, defeat bosses, and collect the legendary items that drop for you. It might be a new piece of armour that keeps you safe during your next raid, or maybe a new skin for your helpful Ghost buddy that keeps him looking fly. Oh, and the story’s pretty good too.

Play it for free on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
