Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema Just Dropped The Full Program For A New Venue In Sydney’s Inner West
Also: we'll be hosting screenings all around the country. Come hang with us!
Considering they serve free ice cream, have a full bar, host live local music, and screen new films in big spaces where you can splay your drunken, over-sugared body all over a beanbag, there’s a fairly good chance Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema has won you over already. But if you live in Sydney, it may look even more appealing this year. They’ve recently announced a brand new venue in the Inner West and have just dropped a huge new program to go along with it.
Setting up at Sydney University’s Cardigal Green, the giant inflatable screen will kick things off with an exploration of the cruel wasteland of space in The Martian on November 19, and wind things down with an examination of the cruel wasteland of Alan Rickman’s heart in Love Actually on December 12.

I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU, RICKMAN.
In between that, they’ll also be screening new releases like Johnny Depp’s disturbing Black Mass, your bestie’s first doco He Named Me Malala, Joseph Gordon Levitt’s portrayal of wire-walker Philippe Petit in The Walk, Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie flirting for 90 minutes in Sleeping With Other People, as well as old classics like Thelma & Louise and Back To The Future. With the date Marty traveled to the future — October 21, 2015 — fast approaching, you’re morally obliged to give that last one a re-watch in the next month or so.
Like other venues around the country, the Inner West will also be getting a bunch of regular events including Aperol Sunsets on Fridays (with a pre-screening afternoon party with DJs and free samples of Aperol Spritz) and Scooper Saturdays (with a pre-screening musical performance, free ice cream, and something implausible yet intriguing called Giant Cow Jenga).
Celebrating the release of other programs around the country, we’ll also be presenting a couple of screenings. If you’re in Brisbane, you can head along to our Grease Sing-A-Long on October 20 (shut up, you definitely know all the words) and if you’re in Melbourne, we’re hosting Spectre: the new Bond flick on December 17 (to partially restore our street cred).
Programs for all over venues will be released about a month or two ahead of their opening night.
