Five years ago the world was captivated by the story of 5-year-old leukaemia patient Miles Scott whose Make-A-Wish request to be Batman for a day quickly evolved into a huge city-wide effort that saw San Francisco turn into Gotham City.

In an increasingly rare moment of the internet doing something good for humanity, the initial story’s epic viral nature is what ultimately led to around 10,000 people celebrating Miles, now known as Batkid, in a cross-city adventure in which he thwarted a bank robbery, saved a heroine and finally defeated his arch nemesis The Riddler.

Not only was it the only thing anyone was talking about online back on November 15 2013, but so warmed were the collective hearts of the world that it scored Miles a congratulatory message from President Obama himself and later got turned into a touching documentary.

With the five-year anniversary just passed, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has updated the globe on young Miles and the absolute best news of the week, month and possibly year is that the now 10-year-old is cancer free.

In a post on their website, Make-A-Wish happily announces that Miles is “doing great” and since his crime-fighting days “has returned to being a typical kid—playing little league, going to school, helping his family farm, and even selling his first market goat in the local fair!”

Healthwise Miles has been in remission for five years, only visiting an oncologist annually, and having now hit that very important milestone is considered to be free of cancer.

Look at the happy little legend! Make-A-Wish also reflected on the incredibly positive response following Miles’ superhero escapades noting “We saw an increase in offers of help across all areas, including donations, volunteers, referrals and other services” directly following the day.

Good news still exists friends!
