Barbie Ferreira Shares Why She Won’t Return As Kat In Season 3 Of ‘Euphoria’
"Kat went from having a whole episode about her to four lines in 'Euphoria' S2, like baby I knew something was coming."
Barbie Ferreira has confirmed she is will not be reprising her role of Kat in the third season of Euphoria.
The model and actress posted on Instagram on Thursday in a since-expired story that she is leaving her teen student character behind on the hit HBO show.
“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye,” said Ferreira. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did, and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her, and I hope you guys can feel it,” she said. “Love you Katherine Hernandez.”

Rumours ran amok during the run of the second season of Euphoria after Ferreira was not seen at the premiere in January, fanned by a tip to gossip profile DeuxMoi that she was “not vibing” with director Sam Levinson’s vision for the show, and reportedly had a stack of her character’s lines cut after a set storm-out.
“What’s interesting about this season is there are so many more eyes on it that even the news cycle has been been so interesting to see,” said Ferreira to Insider in March, addressing the behind-the-scene speculations. “I’ve seen so many different things, and a lot of it is untrue and some of it’s kind of like mundane little things.”
“Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they’re not rooted in the truth, but it’s okay because I know it’s just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff,” she continued.
“And I signed up for it. So, I’ll take it. I’ll take the good and the bad.”
Ferreira and Levinson allegedly didn’t see eye-to-eye about the direction Kat’s arc was taking either. In the notably lesser number of scenes she featured in this season, Kat quits being a dominatrix, supports close friend Maddy through her relationship deteriorations with Cassie and Nate, and tries to break up with her boyfriend by pretending to have a terminal brain disorder.

The most screen time Kat had in the last season was in a scene where she grapples with confidence issues, surrounded by societal and media messages of self-love preached by influencers and models who fit the box of traditional beauty conventions.
Ferreira has been praised by audiences for her nuanced representation of body diversity, finding yourself as a teenager, and how exposure to sexualised content at a young age affected her view of sex and relationships growing up.
Season 3 of Euphoria is believed to come out in 2024.
