Thanks to its slick, disco-driven beat, Arnhem land rapper Baker Boy’s ‘Cool As Hell’ is a late contender for sleeper hit of the summer, and now, it has an equally infectious, feel good music video to match.

Baker Boy, aka Danzel Baker, dropped ‘Cool As Hell’ just under a month ago, the same day he was announced as the 2019 Young Australian Of The Year. It follows last year’s ‘Mr. La Di Da Di’ and ‘Black Magic’, two triple j high-rotation singles that confirmed Baker as one of the leading new voices in Australia’s hip-hop scene.

‘Cool As Hell’ is a classic ‘Feelin’ Myself’ song about blasting your favourite song and dancing it out, so it makes sense that the music video features Baker doing exactly that throughout Sydney streets.

After all, he was a dancer before he turned to music, and was one of the founding members of Yolngu dance troupe Djuki Mala. This video shows that the talent runs in the family, with his brother and dad (the OG Baker Boy) arriving halfway through for a last-minute choreographed cameo.

The video’s directed by Gabriel Gasparinatos, who says the simple concept has a bigger picture message.

“I wanted to map Danzal’s journey and visualise how a young boy from North East Arnhem Land made it onto (and is now dominating) the world stage, in a charming and excitable way,” he said (via a press release). “I wanted to capture the exciting journey of Baker Boy; which I believe is only getting started.”

Baker Boy has also announced a national tour this April off the back of ‘Cool As Hell’, with stops in Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Alice Springs and Byron Bay. Tickets are on sale now — you can find more info over on his website.
