‘The Mandalorian’ Fans Are Roasting Disney Over The Ugly Baby Yoda Merch
"thinking about how disney only used one image of baby yoda for their merch and it isnt even a good image of him"
Baby Yoda is all anyone can talk about these days.
Ever since the launch of Disney+ and the first episode of The Mandalorian, the internet has been fixated on Baby Yoda. Officially known as The Child, the tiny green angel is not technically Yoda but rather a creature of the same species. He’s also not really a baby because he’s 50, but that’s baby enough when it comes to their species considering real Yoda is literally 900.
Whatever, the technicality of it all isn’t important. The main takeaway here is that the internet just really loves Baby Yoda.

And as with anything loved and adored by the internet, Disney has capitalised on the craze by releasing merch for keen fans. However, there’s a problem. The merch is… just objectively shit.

In what is being likened to a “bootleg copy” of actual merch, fans have been left disappointed by what Disney has created.

There are currently 15 items you can purchased in Disney’s first wave of product launch. However all items feature the same image of Baby Yoda, which is the original concept art that was tweet by The Mandalorian creator, Jon Favreau.

Despite Baby Yoda being the perfect character to be a plush toy, Disney has chosen to not include one in this first drop. Instead you can grab a mug, tumbler, tote bag, phone case or shirt for anywhere between $14.95 to 44.95 USD. Mmm very un-cute this is.

People: We want #BabyYoda merch!
Brands: Let's just stick an iron-on screenshot of Baby Yoda on stuff. Done!https://t.co/2YqndgfB7l

The disappointing merch is likely the result of rushing to meet demand in the two weeks since the first episode of The Mandalorian aired. Baby Yoda was actually left off marketing material entirely to avoid spoilers meaning there would’ve been no pre-production of merchandise either.
Regardless of the reasons why, Baby Yoda stans were disappointed by the release of items and took to Twitter to air their frustrations.

We can only hope that the second wave of Disney’s merchandise for Baby Yoda is a little better than this one.

But if you want to get your hands on some right now, you can head to Shop Disney. Or you could just print a screenshot from The Mandalorian and iron it onto your shirt for the same effect. Up to you.
