Ariana Grande’s anticipated fifth album, thank u, next, just dropped on streaming services — just five months after she released Sweetener. It wasn’t a surprise release, but you’d be forgiven for not keeping up: since August, there’s been a deluge of Grande news.

A series of personal moments, including the death of her ex-partner Mac Miller and her break-up with fiancé Pete Davidson, prompted a quick turn-around in writing and recording. A week after Grande and Davidson split, she released the healing break-up bop ‘thank u, next’, which mentions Davidson by name.

Since then, the song’s music video smashed YouTube records, and it was followed up with promotional ballad ‘Imagine’ and the trap-indebted ‘7 Rings’, which attracted calls of plagiarism from Princess Nokia and Soulja Boy. Recently, she’s attracted headlines over a Japanese tattoo mis-hap, as well as calling out the Grammy’s for ‘lying’ by saying she turned down a performance offer at this Monday’s awards ceremony.

But back to thank u, next: the album is 12 tracks long, closing on the eye-grabbing next single ‘break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored’. Grande released the music Hannah Lux David video for the song at the same time, which you can watch below.

Grande co-produced the album with frequent collaborators Max Martin (‘Side To Side’, ‘Break Free’, ‘No Tears Left To Cry’, for starters), Ilya Salmanzadeh (‘Problem’), and Tommy Brown, who has worked with Grande since her 2013 debut album Yours Truly. The lead singles have so far stepped away from the skittish, The Neptunes-indebted sounds of Sweetener.

You can watch ‘break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored’ below, and stream thank u, next on Spotify, or wherever you listen to music. As Servideo might say, ‘Congrats Ariana On thank u, next!!!”
