Three weeks after being called out for hosting an all-male lineup, ANU Bar have finally added three female-fronted acts to the bill of their closing party.

Solo artist Pheno and female-led bands Betty Alto and House of Strangers have all joined the line-up for June’s ANU Bar Finale. The new additions replace headliners Regurgitator and Canberra four-piece Slow Turismo, both of whom withdrew from the bill last month after the show’s promoters landed in hot water.

Local promoters Greenroom, who are running the ANU Bar event, attracted criticism after they hit back at Facebook users who asked why the line-up didn’t feature any female or gender non-binary artists.

“Based on the subsequent responses from the organisers to criticism about the heavy gender bias of the lineup… we have had to cancel our upcoming involvement in this ANU Bar Finale lineup,” Regurgitator said a statement explaining their decision to withdraw from the line-up.

The ANU Union distanced themselves from Greenroom’s refusal to change the bill, inviting artists from all “genres, nationalities and genders” to apply to join the line-up.

Betty Alto say they’re “absolutely stoked” to be playing the ANU Bar finale on June 17, which marks the venue’s final night before being demolished. Listen to their debut single ‘You’re Ready’ below.
