The Trailer For The Emotional Anthony Bourdain Documentary Is Here And I’m Already Sobbing
"You’re probably going to find out about it anyway. So here’s a little preemptive truth-telling… there’s no happy ending."
When news of Anthony Bourdain’s death broke three years ago, the world stopped to mourn the celebrated chef turned best-selling author turned journalist.
In June 2018, it was reported that the beloved TV personality died by suicide while filming an episode of his smash CNN series, Parts Unknown, in France.
At the time, Bourdain’s network released a statement that mourned the treasured personality and noted all the things that made the world fall in love with him.
“His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller,” CNN said. “His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much.”
Now, three years on, the much-anticipated documentary exploring Anthony Bourdain’s rise from “anonymous chef [to] world-renowned cultural icon” finally has a trailer.
“You’re probably going to find out about it anyway. So here’s a little preemptive truth-telling… there’s no happy ending,” the trailer eerily starts, foreshadowing Bourdain’s eventual demise.
“Travel isn’t always pretty. You go away, you learn, you get scarred, marked, changed in the process.”
While ROADRUNNER: A Film About Anthony Bourdain starts on a sombre note, the documentary picks up to celebrate how the chef lived his life unabashedly, with an unmatched passion and with a keen sense of adventure.
Created by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, ROADRUNNER promises to be an “intimate, behind-the-scenes look” at the Anthony Bourdain’s life and appears to use home videos, interviews with those that knew him best, and archival footage from Bourdain’s back catalogue.
Now if you need me I’ll be crying while I rewatch Parts Unknown and No Reservations until ROADRUNNER drops.
ROADRUNNER: A Film About Anthony Bourdain is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and hits cinemas July 16.
