Christmas has come early for the LGBTQ+ community after news broke that actors Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal will star as lovers in an upcoming romantic drama directed by Andrew Haigh.

Yes, Fleabag runaway star Andrew Scott and Normal People thirst trap Paul Mescal will “explore each other’s bodies” in the upcoming film Strangers, presumably thanks to someone discovering an ancient lamp that grants wishes.

According to Variety, the project is a loose adaptation of a Japanese horror novel of the same name written by Taichi Yamada, which follows a screenwriter who finds spectral romance in his empty apartment complex, later revealed to be the site of an other-worldly haunting.

Director Andrew Haigh, whose debut queer coming-of-age film, Weekend, stunned audiences back in 2011, has assembled an all-star cast to tackle the project including The Crown star Claire Foy and Billy Elliot lead Jamie Bell.

Naturally, the announcement has overwhelmed members of respective Scott and Mescal fan clubs, who’ve started posting thirst-trap compilations of the pair in the lead-up to the flick.

The iconic Irish pair have previously appeared in a Fleabag/Normal People crossover for RTC Comic relief, which sees our favourite hot priest attempting to receive a confession from Connell.

There’s no news yet on when Strangers will be released. Standby for more.
