The first episode is with John Mulaney. Next up: Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza and Aziz Ansari.
You know that episode of Parks and Recreation where Leslie accidentally gets the animal shelter shut down and compensates by secretly adopting 32 cats, a dog and a pig?
Or maybe that other one where April decides to make a pet adoption site and all the Parks Department help by assigning each other “spirit dogs”?
If not, please watch more of this show. It is very good, and I will not stop referencing it for you. But, if so, please prepare yourself for some exciting news: all of this is pretty much happening right now in Amy Poehler’s real life.
The Parks star’s much-loved community organisation Amy Poehler Smart Girls has just teamed up with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to help find good homes for dogs with a web series called Heavy Petting. The clips will feature different dogs talking about why they should get adopted with some help from your favourite comedians (though, sadly, none of the dogs will be in Australia).
Released this morning, the first episode features a mixed breed pup called Bart voiced by former SNL writer John Mulaney. Bart likes Cheerios, sweet skateboard tricks, toys, horses, peeing, people, and everything else because he is a high-energy dog very high-energy dog yes yes, hit ‘im up.
According to the website, upcoming episodes will also feature a bunch of Parks and Rec cast members including Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, and Aziz Ansari. As April said when making her own project like this, “If you can look at that site and not want to take home 50 dogs, you’re a war criminal”.
