Allday’s third album is out next month, and today he dropped ‘Restless’, a song with The Veronicas. To celebrate, he’s popped into the triple j studios with the Origliasso sisters for a ‘Like A Version’ of the Joni Mitchell classic, ‘Big Yellow Taxi’.

Allday also grabbed Japanese Wallpaper for some backup vocals, and we’re pretty sure we spy Kllo’s Simon Lam on keyboard, too.

The result’s somewhere between the original and the Counting Crows/Vanessa Carlton Two Weeks Notice tie-in cover, with The Veronicas and Allday alternating verses over some soothing synths and an acoustic guitar.

But it’s not just a run-of-the-mill cover, with Allday updating the song’s environmental message with a verse filled with ‘it’s 2019 and the world is fucked’ energy.

He mentions Adani destroying the Great Barrier Reef, and then raps about Milo and some very Black Mirror lines about ‘how the Amazon is dying, but we’ve got Amazon Prime now’ before saying we should kill millionaires.

Find out for yourself and listen below to the cover, as well as a live cover of Allday new song with The Veronicas, ‘Restless’ — the latter’s a must watch for Allday’s side-shuffle alone.

Allday’s new album Starry Night Over The Phone is out this July, just in time for his set at Splendour In The Grass. Oh, and it’s worth mentioning that set’s Splendour set is listed as ‘Allday + friends’: take from that what you will.
