Please Enjoy These Shoppers Losing Their Shit Over Aldi Vacuum Discounts
Late capitalism sucks.
Buying vacuum cleaners, even at the best of times, truly sucks. So we can only imagine that queueing for hours outside your local Aldi to score a slightly discounted Dyson, only to have frenzied shoppers nearly trample you in their haste to beat you to the goods, sucks with the formidable power for which Dyson is known.
This, we regret to inform you, was how hundreds of Australians spent the early hours of this weekend, and they’re not happy about it. Behold, late capitalism in action:
This is a queue of people willing to give up 1+ hours of their early Saturday morning to get a 14% discount on a product that's 3 generations old. #aldi #dyson #opporrunitycost pic.twitter.com/ANeuN6ib2I

These queues are the result of one of those weekly Aldi special offers, which any bargain-hunting veteran knows is likely to end in tears, long queues, and demand wildly outstripping supply.
But of course, the people came, they saw, and they complained. There are reports of people queuing for hours, pushing, shoving and resorting to random violence in their attempts to obtain the household appliance for a mild discount.
“My partner just got home from Aldi Monbulk,” one person wrote on Aldi Australia’s Facebook page. “He was elbowed by numerous women, pushed and shoved so they could buy multiple Dyson stick vacs.”
“These women were towards the back of the queue but used violence to fight for a product.”
@ALDIAustralia I don't get into the special buys but am disgusted by people fighting over the couple of items that are high demand. I just come to shop and I now plan my Sat as to whether you have something crazy on as that's when I'll skip your groceries and go to Coles #Stress

Other Facebook posts echoed these sentiments. “Feeling disgusted by the behaviour of some people pushing in front of me to get a Dyson vacuum this morning after I was one of the first few in the line waiting for sometime before shops opened. Consequently I missed out,” someone else complained. “Why advertise in catalogue if you only have 5 in stock!!!!” was another contribution.
“Absurd and ridiculous how at my age I have to line up for more than and hour and walking away with empty hands,” another disappointed veteran of the Great Dyson Sales Rush of 2017 wrote. “I feel so disappointed, I take this as an insult. Although I always appreciated Aldi’s low prices. Thank you.”
Anyway, this is your weekly reminder that both capitalism and 2017 are absolutely cooked. It’s survival of the fittest out there, folks, and only the strongest survive. Also, an almost identical vacuum cleaner is on sale at Big W for only $50 more than the Aldi model. Just fyi.
