A lot of conservatives and MAGA-heads online aren’t exactly distinguished masters of the rhetorical style.

Indeed, if you were feeling uncharitable — and heaven forbid you might ever feel uncharitable to supporters of a President who locked children in cages — you could almost say that they are often totally shithouse at arguing.

This is because most Trump supporters have a near-compulsive need to disagree with literally everything their opponents ever say. They’ll argue against doctors trying to keep them safe; climate scientists trying to stop their children from dying horrible and preventable deaths; gun safety advocates trying to stop school students from being gunned down in their place of education. Doesn’t matter what the position is. They just have a burning desire to disagree.

As a result, conservatives will sometimes oppose themselves into sensible and left-wing positions. In their rush to disagree, they often won’t realise when they perfectly express their opponent’s argument for them.

It’s thrilling to watch when it happens. Which is why we should all celebrate “accidentally left-wing”, a Twitter account which captures such moments of accidental insight.
