“Your holiday looked amazing! Europe looked incredible! So, what are you doing now that you are back home? Where is your next trip going to be?”

Argh, these are just a few questions that common travellers are asked on the reg. And it never really helps if you are one of those people suffering with a severe case of wanderlust.

Here’s a few ways to quell those cravings and get back to reality.

#1 Bye-Bye Travel Emails

Send all incoming or previously received emails from travel companies (Webjet, STA, Flight Centre) to a different folder. Make sure you title the folder, “To look at when I have cured my Wanderlust” and DO NOT OPEN IT. Well until you are ready, whenever that may be.

#2 Get Out! (Leave)

Get out of the house or environment that is making you bored and allowing the wanderlust to resurface. *Cue* JoJo’s Leave (Get Out) as your song of choice for this moment.

Go and earth yourself. It may sound crazy but try to spare 30 minutes of your time to kick your shoes off, go outside and stand on the grass. Watch your happiness level rise and your thoughts of where you’d rather be in this moment slip away.

#3 Read Something Inspiring Or Adventurous

Non-fiction, travel essay/memoirs or poetry. Books that will make you travel hungry but in a healthy way. Novels that will stir a love of reading and escaping to a foreign place in your own mind. Try Eat, Pray, Love, Into The Wild or The Art of Travel.

#4 Watch A Doco

This’ll hopefully get you inspired and motivated for your next trip. Which brings me to my next point.

#5 Go Deep Into Your Own Insta Account

We all have those days where we think that deleting Instagram will make us feel a whole lot better. Reality is, you could just do a social media cleanse for the week and still feel great! Because on the days when you’re feeling super down (for no reason) you’re going to need to dive deep into the archives of your own account.

Remember when you graduated? Remember when you took that spontaneous trip to Melbourne? Remember when you had coffee with a friend and talked about future travel plans? Go back to see how far you’ve come, appreciate the mems and say goodbye to your crippling wanderlust!

#6 Find Travel Communities On The Internet

Forget Vero, some amazing apps that are currently on fire are: Storyboard Social, Travello and Couchsurfing. Get involved in an online travel community, share pics and engage. It will be more comforting and encouraging to deal with your wanderlust with a collective group, instead of being by yourself.

#7 Explore Your Stomping Grounds With A Foreigner

Showing travellers around your local area will not only refresh your knowledge but will motivate you to learn a thing or two about how other perceive where you live.

#8 Listen To Some Motivational Playlists

Swap these out in place of your usual travel ones. Jump onto Spotify for inspiration. Good-bye wanderlust.

#9 Don’t Obsess Over IG Accounts

There are some insta-famous people out there who are travelling and getting paid to do it. But obsessing over it will get you nowhere!

You can turn to them for some travel inspiration – but remember that they’re the exception, not the rule. Don’t beat yourself up for not having that influencer life.
