The 7 Deadly Sins We All Commit In Summer
A whole lot of slothin' around.
None of us can admit being angels over summer. We have Christmas, New Years, festivals and Aus day and with that comes a lot of consumption, summer flings, lazing about and spending rather than saving.
Look, tbh these are more fun than “deadly” but all good things have to come to an end and we deal with the consequences. Here’s a list of our seven deadliest sins that we all commit over the break.
Lust
Grease may have made it a cliche, but summer lovin’ really is a thing. If you’re in a relationship, it’s probably more lively with all the festivities going on. If you’re single, you may have scored a few flings over the break. Due to the hype of music festivals, parties and kris kringle, we’re all guilty of being a little, ahem, frisky over the silly season.
Gluttony
Its OK to get a little carried away with the amount of food and alcohol that’s around us in the New Year period. It’s only once a year after all! But if you’re constantly eating nothing but chocolate for breakfast, it can’t be good for your mental or physical health. If you’re thinking of kicking off some healthier habits this year, try to make it part of your daily routine.
Greed
After being used to tapping our card non-stop around Christmas time, we get into a routine of spending until we’re flat out broke. These purchases are usually unnecessary, like materialistic items, food at expensive restaurants and buying multiple rounds of $22 margaritas at a new bar you’ve checked out. Sadly, it might be time to lock that debit card away.
Sloth
It’s very easy to slip into holiday mode, but a much harder journey getting out of it. Going back to work in summer after the New Year break is probably one of the hardest challenges. Just think of all the money you’ll make back after your “greed” spree.
Wrath
After binging on the new Black Mirror episodes, the Romper Stomper series or all of Netflix’s new releases, there’s pretty much nothing left to watch. This is the worst possible feeling for any young person with a laptop. Your instinct might be to rage at the Man (Netflix) for not giving you more entertainment options, but it might just be time to go outside for a while instead. At least until the next episode of Riverdale comes out.
Envy
It’s probably the worst when you catch up with a friend who got back from their amazing holiday and have to hear all their amazing stories. Or log onto Insta and see literally everyone else having the most amazing summer. Try not to fall too hard into the trap of envy.
Pride
It’s become a thing of going away on holidays and snapchatting everything we see and thinking to ourselves “wow this waterfall is so insta-worthy” rather than actually enjoying the waterfall itself. Those who have too much pride with the aesthetics of their social media accounts are the ones who are missing out on their actual holiday. Put the phone down and take a moment to relax and simply enjoy it.
