5 Reasons Why It’s Actually Good To Be Unsure About Your Future
Think of all the possibilities!
Don’t know what to expect now that this semester had wrapped up? Not totally sold on your degree or your part-time job? Feeling like everyone else has got it figured out while you’re just… lost?
Join the club, fam.
Look, it sucks to feeling like you’re aimlessly floating but it doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Here’s five legit reasons why feeling unsure about your future is a good thing.
#1 You Consider Every Possible Option
Instead of being tied down by an idea you’ve been working towards for years, you’re in a position to look at the bigger picture. While this might sound overwhelming, it’s actually completely liberating.
This way, you might discover a hobby you might not have thought about before, or stumble into a job you end up loving. Literally anything’s possible. So, say yes to absolutely every opportunity and see where you end up!
#2 You Get To Spend More Time Traveling
What do young people do when they’ve got lots of free time and no way to spend it? Travel! If you had a grad job lined up or a summer internship to complete, you wouldn’t have the freedom to fuck off out of here and find your purpose on a remote island in the Philippines.
You won’t get another opportunity in your life to do this, so soak it up while you can.
#3 You’ll Always Be Pleasantly Surprised
OK, this could be seen as a negative point so hear us out. Having low expectations for what’s to come means that whatever happens will be extra awesome and if nothing happens, you won’t be disappointed. The only place to go is up.
Similarly, people will have low expectations for you too! You’re bound to wow them with whatever you try. Much better than disappointing people, right?
#4 You’ll Learn A Lot More
Just because you’re a little directionless, doesn’t mean you can kick back and coast along. You need to put in some work too because your purpose isn’t gonna find itself. The upside of this? You’ll discover things about your personality you didn’t know before. Good and bad.
If you’ve always had your next step in mind, you might not have put in the legwork to discover your passions and interests.
Better yet, you’ll probably end up reading lots and watching a billion motivational speeches. Your brain will grow so, so much, you smart thing.
#5 You Get To Meet Way More People
A cool thing to do when you’re a bit unsure about what career path to go down is to speak to a bunch of people who already do it. This way, you’ll get an idea of what their day to day is like, and you’ll gain yourself a connection for further down the track.
There you have it. Feeling a little lost? Good on you! Only positive things can happen now.
