The yearly resurgence of the discourse on whether a particular movie is technically a “Christmas movie” or not is quite frankly exhausting and I hate it. Discussions of subjective applications of semantics in pop culture is fruitless and unnecessary! All words are made up!

Central to this bullshit back and forth that crops up every December is the classic action masterpiece Die Hard. The Bruce Willis skyscraper shoot-em-up is set during Christmas but isn’t overtly about Christmas and thus its status as a either True Christmas Movie or merely A Movie, circles around the brains of people with too much time on their hands and an addiction to pointless arguments.

Well, thankfully we can finally end this nonsense “debate” as the movie’s own production company 20th Century Fox has released an official trailer for the 1988 film finally confirming it is indeed a Christmas Movie.

Focusing on the extensive mentions of Christmas, Santa and the holiday season in general and set to the tune of various yuletide tunes, this trailer for Die Hard, subtitled here as ‘The Greatest Christmas Story’ locks it in as a 100%, no-doubts-about-it Chrissie flick.

They’ve even gone as far as re-releasing the movie in a suitably ugly Christmas jumper themed box set hopefully finally shutting down this whole shemozzle forever.

Watch the new trailer below and join me in praying that this conversation is finally done and dusted so we can turn out attention to more important matters at hand. Like, say, does Santa fuck?
