The trailer for the second season of Netflix’s controversial teen drama 13 Reasons Why has dropped, and it looks like our return to Liberty High will be a harrowing one.

The second season will revolve around the aftermath of Hannah (Katherine Langford’s) death. As Liberty High prepares to face a lawsuit from Hannah’s parents, there seems to be a struggle to bring her rapist to justice — with the trailer suggesting there’s more to the story than we know.

The first season of 13 Reasons Why received a lot of criticism, with mental health and suicide prevention groups stating that the show managed to break many of the accepted rules for portraying suicide on screen — such as featuring a graphic, prolonged scene of the main character’s death and showing the suicide as a force for positive change and catharsis in the narrative.

In response, Netflix has added a content warning with cast members Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, Justin Prentice and Alisha Boe that will air before each episode.

Furthermore, after commissioning a global research study around the issue, they have included additional features such as parental controls and a resource database for teens seeking help, and providing a discussion guide to accompany the series.

The 13-episode second season starts streaming on Netflix on May 18. Watch the trailer below.
