Why Sox Is The Friend We All Need In Our Life

Brought to you by: Disney

DISNEY AND PIXAR’S LIGHTYEAR. IN CINEMAS NOW.

Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear is officially in cinemas, starring Chris Evans as everyone’s favourite hyperspeed reaching spaceranger, Buzz Lightyear. Lightyear features a host of cool new characters with terrific voice acting performances (Taika Waititi anyone?).

But it’s Buzz’s loveable and invaluable robot cat Sox who really steals the show!

With an adorable robotic optimism provided by Disney Pixar director Peter Sohn, Sox is Buzz’s analytical but playful sidekick who is always there for our favourite spaceranger, whether he likes it or not.

But it’s not just Buzz who needs a bit of hardwired feline friendship! Here are our reasons why Sox is the friend that we all need in our life (some very mild spoilers ahead):

Sox Is Always By Your Side

Loyalty is in this feisty little feline’s programming. His mission is to help Buzz with his mission and help he does as he follows the whole crew through thick and thin the entire movie!

When have you ever seen an Earth cat display that type of loyalty? Which makes us realise…

He Really Makes Us Want A Robot Cat

We’re not saying robot cats are definitely better than Earth cats but Sox puts up a good argument for felines with AI. Not only does Sox have a USB connecting tail that can override an override but his mouth is full of wise words and a whole host of gadgets that end up being of vital importance!

Plus, he has an inbuilt laser pointer so he can keep himself occupied for hours!

Need To Talk About Your Feelings? Sox is there

In Lightyear, Sox is first tasked with talking feelings with Buzz after his first mission to reach hyperspeed. When Buzz states he doesn’t want to talk about his mission, Sox politely reminds him it is mandatory like any good friend should.

When we think about it, a four legged friend is already there to comfort you when you’re feeling low. Sox takes it a step further by being an adorable set of ears that listen without judgement. Plus, he even has ambient noises to fall asleep to!

He’s Voiced By Pixar Legend Peter Sohn

Peeking beyond the fourth wall for a second, we can see Sox is voiced by Peter Sohn who you may not recognise in the street but will recognise in your heart.

With a list of Disney Pixar credits as long as his arm, Sohn has contributed voice acting work to Ratatouille, Monsters University, and Luca as well as being the director and writer of The Good Dinosaur.

He was also the inspiration for the young wilderness explorer Russell in Disney Pixar’s Up which is a credit too adorable to go unmentioned. Don’t worry, that adorable energy is all there as Sohn takes on the role of Sox.

He’s So Fuzzy

Sure, he can speak English, do complex mathematics, and saves almost every character multiple times but at the end of the day the thing we love most about Sox is his fuzzy little head!

Sox sure does love a pat on the fuzzy little head which causes him to make an adorable purring sound that is worth the price of a ticket alone!

And all that is without mentioning the hilarious one liners, Toy Story callbacks, and so much more! To discover why Sox should be your IRL bestie you’ll have to check out Lightyear in cinemas now!
