YouTube: Tavi Gevinson Interviews Rashida Jones

Recommended by: Estelle Tang (‘Tavi Gevinson Came To Australia, Is Now Preferred Prime Minister‘)

Rashida Jones is a babe. She is even more of a babe as she admits to Rookie’s Tavi Gevinson that she was a huge nerd as a teenager, and that her childhood nickname was POTATO LADY. I mean, if Rashida Jones can’t catch a break at school, then nobody can. Also, she is such a babe. Did I say that already? And when she was 17, she wrote a letter to Tupac (ON A TYPEWRITER) protesting his take on mixed-race families (spoiler: he said they shouldn’t be that way). And as a result, her sister ended up GOING OUT WITH HIM. For comparison, let me say that when I was 12, I wrote a letter to Gary Barlow from Take That. Am I going out with Gary Barlow? No I am not.

Salami Mountains and River, by Carl Warner

Here is a ridiculous series of photos of landscapes made entirely out of food. I am looking at moving in to Bread Village, possibly in to the Stilton House. I think to get there I must cross The Cabbage Sea, which looks treacherous. Wish me luck.

Song: ‘Ode To Sky Whale’, By Hannah Beasley (Feat. Fun Machine)

Recommended by: Erin Turner (‘Junk Explained: Why “Free Range” Eggs Aren’t All They’re Cracked Up To Be‘)

With lyrics like “I’ve seen love before / but never a whale tit-spangled”, ACT songstress Hannah Beasley has stolen my heart.

In a charming song dedicated to the most unusual hot-air balloon the world has ever seen, Beasley reminds us that the absurd can be beautiful.

Don your sky-whale-crocheted-hat, and fall in love with the Sky Whale all over again.

Website: A Page Full of Terrible, Creepy Bird-Related Gifs

Recommended by: Callum Denness (‘A Foodie’s Guide To The European Slopes‘)

I’m not sure if this is supposed to be relaxing, or inspirational, or if it’s just the efforts of someone who doesn’t know how to internet properly, but this blog post has some of the worst GIFs you’ll ever see, and they’re all bird related.

Bird looks left, bird looks right, bird looks left….

I’ve been staring at this page for close to 40 minutes. It’s mesmerising. And slightly addictive.

Rant: Cook Suck’s Vegemite Rant

Recommended by: Edward Sharp-Paul (‘Junk Explained: The US Government Shutdown‘)

News Limited caused a minor ripple yesterday by publishing probably the worst piece of journalism I’ve ever seen in my life: ‘This Is The Most Uninspiring Piece Of Vegemite Toast Ever‘.

Fortunately, anonymous food-hate blog Cook Suck balanced things out by publishing a rant that starts with poorly-spread Vegemite, and ends up mercilessly dissecting the cult of the individual in contemporary society. If you’re the sort of person that finds good cheer in other people’s vitriol, this might hit the spot. Unlike poorly spread Vegemite on toast.

Music: Tally All The Things That You Broke EP, by Parquet Courts

Recommended by: Rob Moran

Parquet Courts’ recent album Light Up Gold was excellent indie rock in the old sense, sounding a little bit like The Minutemen, a little bit like some goofy ’90s novelty band. It was all stupid guitars and fascinating lyrics, head guy Andrew Savage yelling smart-dumb shit like “Socrates died in the f**kin’ gutter!” or something about wandering around Queens, NY while hungry and trying to figure out what kinda confectionery to snack on.

The band’s now released their new EP, Tally All The Things You Broke, and it’s available to stream freely on Soundcloud. To be honest, I haven’t had a chance to listen to it properly yet, but I can’t wait to hear what great nonsense I’ll be chanting tomorrow.

Art: Red Hot by Thomas Knights

Recommended by: Glenn Dunks (‘An A to Z of James Franco’)

Look, I don’t want to suggest people start splurging their savings on a trip to London, but… well, yum.

A new exhibition by British artist Thomas Knights seeks to examine the role of sex and masculinity as it pertains to my beloved ginger dears, by devoting an entire show to their, shall we say, rare and unique beauty. It’s called “Red Hot” and if you think surely there aren’t that many attractive ginges, then has Buzzfeed got a wake-up call for you. A sexy wake-up call.

90 seconds of bliss, that.

Tune: ‘Slumming It In Paradise’, by Jonti x Big Scary

Recommended by: Andy Huang (‘Arcade Fire Made Another Epic Video. It Features Bono. It’s Really Weird.‘)

Sydney-based electro-mixer-extraordinaire Jonti and Melbourne’s Big Scary have teamed up to pump out this genre-hybrid monster track: ‘Slumming It In Paradise.’

There’s the insane piano riffs that Big Scary do oh so well, some slick hip hop vibes, and other awesome musical things that I’m sure there’s an accurate term for but I just don’t know it.

It’s part of an Adidas Originals campaign, which will feature other collabs too: The Doqument vs Surf City, and World’s End Press vs Client Liaison.

Instagram: Yogurt The Pirate

Every couple of weeks, I get fed up with the unbridled narcissism that is Instagram and consider giving it up, cold turkey. And then I stumble across a gem of an account so full of personality and charm that it makes me tear up.

Yogurt the Pirate Dog is such an account.
