Vice documentaries have covered all manner of topics: the war in Baghdad, cannibalism, North Korea, the porn industry. And now they've turned their talents to cat memes.
Six months ago, VICE offered up the teaser trailer for a feature-length documentary which would follow the meteoric rise of Lil Bub, one of the internet’s favourite weird-looking cats. Lil Bub has several genetic mutations that cause dwarfism, polydactylism and a disformed lower jaw, and as a result she looks like a total idiot this:
A week after another of the internet’s favourite weird-looking cats, Grumpy Cat, won himself a deal with Friskies, VICE have released the full trailer for the Lil Bub film. It is maybe the most ridiculous trailer that we have ever seen.
Lil Bub & Friendz will be premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival next month. Although it focuses in on Lil Bub and her owner, Mike Bridavsky, the documentary takes a wider look at the cat meme phenomenon in general, and features all of our favourites: Keyboard Cat, Nyan Cat and Grumpy Cat, too.
