Thanks to this week’s monumental release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there’s never been a better time to be alive and a Star Wars fan. Of the non-fans, though, pretty much the opposite can be said.

In his journey to better understand and convert these people, Late Show host Stephen Colbert discovered why his Chinese viewers aren’t particularly pumped right now: turns out, western media was still fairly suppressed in China when the first film came out in 1977, and the whole trilogy took a while to reach the market. Essentially, these guys are missing out on a major element of the franchise — nostalgia.

So, in a mere 60 seconds, Colbert broke down the plot via the original trilogy to prepare these lost souls for the latest instalment. Personally, I think he loses points for calling the most powerful Jedi Master of all time a muppet backpack, but definitely wins some back when he says “they also made three prequels, but honestly those don’t make any sense at all”.
