Channing Tatum is known for many things, most of them bulging out of his T-shirt; yet despite his masterful turns in Magic Mike and Step Up 2: The Streets, acting isn’t one of those things.

Look at all that acting going on.

Which makes the new trailer for upcoming wrestling flick Foxcatcher all the more surprising; not only has someone roped in Steve Carell and attached a lump of putty to his face, old mate Channing seems to have learnt the emotive potential of furrowing your brow and sticking your lower jaw out really far.

Described as a “psychological thriller”, Foxcatcher tells the true story of poverty-stricken American wrestler Mark Schultz, who is picked up by eccentric millionaire John du Pont and nearly driven insane in his efforts to prepare for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Hence why the trailer features footage of Tatum punching himself in the face and breaking a mirror with his head.

Ah, well. Should be better than GI Joe, anyway.

Foxcatcher US release November 14, Australian release TBA.
