“We attended and, sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene,” a police spokesman told news service Reuters. “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The band confirmed the news in a statement across social media a short time later: “It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint,” the band wrote. “A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”

Flint’s bandmate Liam Howlett posted on Instagram that Flint had taken his own life.

Artists from across the globe are now paying respects for the singer, who with The Prodigy revolutionised the electronic music scene in the late ’90s. Their biggest album, 1997’s Fat Of The Land, spawned iconic hits like ‘Firestarter’ and ‘Breathe’, and went on to sell over 10 million copies worldwide.
