#3. Fancy Boy

At the most recent Melbourne Comedy Festival, the one show all the comedians were frothing over was the Fancy Boy Variety Hour: an ultra fucked-up parody of a stand-up comedy night, where all the most unpalatable aspects of the open mic scene were teased out, blown up, and then turned into characters like the descriptively titled Mr Cum. That’s pretty much a single entendre right there.

Their Fresh Blood offerings are less ribald, but still star an outrageous assortment of Australia’s finest – Luke McGregor, Ronnie Chieng and Celia Pacquola all feature in the superb first episode – and the sketch conceits are original, clean, crafty and impeccably played out. If they’re not already in contract negotiations I’d be thoroughly surprised.
