The First Trailer For ‘Goosebumps’ Is Basically One Giant Checklist Of ’90s Nostalgia

It's basically Jumanji with Jack Black.

Adding on to the growing list of recent remakes, reunions and reboots aiming to mercilessly wring out your childhood of any precious un-pillaged memories, we’ve just received the first trailer to Goosebumps. And boy, I just have no idea how it’s taken this long.

It’s been 18 years since RL Stine wrote his final book of the iconic ’90s kids series and a few less since you finally repressed the horror of the characters therein. Now, the franchise is being rebooted into something more of a comedy for its first filmic adaptation. Jack Black is there screaming in kooky ways through his teeth, the Abominable Snowman of Pasadena is milling around like a big happy gorilla, and that ungodly puppet from Night of the Living Dummy also makes an appearance.

Don’t worry if you miss him in the clip, he will have already burrowed his way into your subconscious waiting for you in your dreams.

With each character being paraded in front of you as if it’s a Buzzfeed quiz on their names, the kid at one point saying he has to “capture them all” like he’s trying to avoid being sued by Pokemon, and the plot being almost entirely lifted from Jumanji, at least the film’s pretty unashamed of its motives.

Yay nostalgia!

Goosebumps will be released in the US on October 16.
