Bill Sikes (Oliver Reed) in Oliver! (1968)

Intriguingly, Tom Hardy also played Bill in a TV adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, meaning he’s now played two dog-owning tough guys. But memorably, in this version Oliver Reed provides a hulking, genuinely frightening menace in an otherwise jaunty musical, with his chewed-up bull terrier Bullseye as his enforcer. When Bill beats his lover Nancy to death for trying to return Oliver to his family, Bullseye won’t stand for it, and refuses to stick with Bill. Good dog.
