Planes, Trains And Roads Disrupted As Sydney Scores A Month’s Worth Of Rain In A Few Hours
The Bureau of Meteorology reports 84.6mm of rain fell in Sydney between 5 and 7am this morning, and is still powering on. For context, 83.8mm is the average rainfall for the entirety of November. Fun times!
Heavy rainfall of 50–100mm was forecast by the BOM, who said 200mm is possible in some areas. The Sydney metro and Illawarra regions were rightly predicted as most likely to see the heaviest falls, prompting flash flooding. The rain should ease off by this afternoon.
Now, if the weather is doing anything in Sydney — anything at all — you can count on a flurry of tweets about it. So of course, #SydneyStorm is where it’s at. And as we’re seeing, getting anywhere — anyhow — today is proving bit of a problem.

The Tarmac won't re-open again until the lightning stops – it's the standard Safety procedure.
If you're flying this morning, sorry about the delays. Please be nice to airline, airport staff: they don't control the weather.#SydneyStorm https://t.co/irVGhaQotA

Driving
#FRNSW firefighters had to negotiate flooded roads while responding to an alarm in Artarmon this morning. Take care if you’re travelling today and don’t enter floodwater. Like the @NSWSES says – if it’s flooded, forget it! pic.twitter.com/F7TWNTmRKz

Even the Ferry
No F3 Parramatta River services are running btwn Parramatta & Sydney Olympic Park due to the weir overflowing. Replacement buses are being organised but are not on site. Allow plenty of additional travel time or consider an alternative mode of transport.

The State Emergency Service says you should be keeping clear of creeks and storm drains and not walking, riding a bike or driving through flood water. If you find yourself trapped by flash flooding, get to the highest point you can, and call 000 if you need a hand to get out. SES can also be reached on 132 500.
There’s another warning due by 9:50 am.
