Crufts, an international dog show based out of the UK, is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

You might remember Crufts from those funny compilation videos that circulate at least once a year where performing dogs break routine and go off the rails, usually expressing their disobedience with urine.

But this year, the most captivating video comes from one chihuahua and its human partner who ascended the mortal designs of choreography and pierced the fury veil of perfection. Behold, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake as you’ve never seen it before.

There’s so much to talk about here. Firstly, the care set designer(s) have gone into, replacing the regular obstacle course markers with inflatable swans. Then there’s the connection between the performers, an adoration I haven’t witnessed since George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez in Out of Sight. Finally, the dance moves provided by the human partner deserve special praise, my heart swells as I recognised that such pure joy remains in the world.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that Swan Lake has been attempted by a pooch, this performance with a border collie took place at the show back in 2016. Despite a larger lighting budget and larger dog, the proceedings are still relatively dour.

Online spectators can barely contain their awe.

I’m sure as we speak, Hollywood production houses are swarming both owner and canine with offers to turn this performance piece and underdog story into a feature film. Until then, I’ll just have to keep watching this on repeat.
