The Simpsons is extremely funny. Also: water is wet and grass is green.

I mean, there’s a reason that the show has been on the air for almost three decades. It has mastered a whole range of comedic talents, perfecting the art of the one-liner, the visual gag, and the rolling punchline. To watch The Simpsons — particularly in its early years — is to watch a bunch of very clever people make comedy look very easy.

For that reason, every few months the internet picks another corner of the series, and basks in it. There have been viral Twitter threads dedicated to favourite characters; to favourite one-liners; to favourite episodes.

Now, because admiring wonderful things is, well, wonderful, the internet has banded together to share their very favourite signs from the show.

It’s a surprisingly fertile area of Simpsons fandom. The writers are famous for tucking gangs in everywhere, filling the screen, and so it makes sense that they’d make any text that appeared on a surface funny.

The thread was kicked off by those devotees over at Ireland Simpsons Fans, well-known for mashing-up the comings and goings of America’s favourite yellow family with incisive political commentary. 

Kicking proceedings off with a contemporary classic, the fanpage encouraged fans to share their faves.

But the thread spread like wildfire, and soon everybody was sharing their favourites.

Goodness gracious it’s beautiful when the internet bands together and decides to share joy. Particularly when the joy is related to one of the pinnacles of American comedic television.
