Scott Morrison Just Gave The Queen A Signed Biography Of Winx, A Horse, And We Have Questions
For one, how does a horse sign a book?
Picture this: you’re the Australian Prime Minister, headed to visit the Queen. What do you bring as a gift befitting a Queen (assuming that, based on the law of averages, you are a middle-aged white male Prime Minister who respects and loves the Commonwealth)? If you’re Scott Morrison, the answer is simple: a signed, authorised biography of Winx, who is famously a racehorse.
This is, sadly, not a joke: earlier today Scott Morrison bowed several times before presenting Her Majesty The Queen with a signed copy of Winx: Greatest of All Racehorses. That’s not to be confused with Winx: Biography of a Champion, which is a similar but unauthorised biography. I think we can all agree it would have been deeply embarrassing if ScoMo had picked the wrong one — this is, after all, a gift for the Queen, not just a last-minute bargain bin buy for your random aunt.
Now, you might be wondering why Scott Morrison picked a book about Winx in the first place. The answer is pretty obvious: nothing better captures the spirit and identity of Australia than Winx, a horse. As ScoMo himself put it just before the election, “Australians have caught the passion of Winx”.
“And it’s not just Winx that has captured the hearts and minds, but it’s been her owners and trainers as well. I’ve met them, and shared some stories with them as well, and they for me epitomise that ‘fair go for those who have a go’ and I think that’s the story of Winx,” he said at the time.
Still, we have a few questions about the book. For one, Winx: Greatest Of All Racehorses is famously the one authorised Winx biography, but what does it truly mean to authorise a biography when you are a horse? Is Winx, in addition to being a record-breaking, award-winning racehorse, actually literate and capable of giving informed consent to the production of a work of literature? Has she read the book? And most importantly, is she earning royalties?

The other question regards the fact that this particular biography is not just authorised, but signed. While Winx has many talents, we feel reasonably confident in asserting that wielding a pen is not one of them. Did she perhaps stomp an inky hoof forcefully upon the page, as a gesture of respect for her Queen? Was the book strong enough to withstand such a stomping?
Anyway, you can watch Scott Morrison and his wife Jenny meeting the Queen below. Jenny even wore the very same dress she wore to Winx’s final race, a stunning gesture of respect for her queen.
