Schapelle’s Former Lawyer Says “Corby Will Celebrate With A Big Marijuana Joint”
She went on 'Today' to discuss Schapelle's impending release with Karl Stefanovic this morning. #noregrets
After Australian Schapelle Corby spent close to ten years in a Bali jail, Indonesian Justice Minister Amir Syamsuddin yesterday said she could be paroled from prison as soon as tomorrow — just in time for the Channel Nine telemovie which airs on Sunday night.
I am expecting lots of Bali Tourism Ads during “Schapelle”, as a payback to the Indos from Channel Nine #goodtiming

Schapelle has been in prison since 2005, after being convicted for importing 4.2kg of marijuana into Bali. To discuss her expected release, Today host Karl Stefanovic invited Corby’s delightfully eccentric former lawyer, the big-haired Kerry Smith-Douglas, onto his show. Hoooooooooo-boy, it was a treat.
“There’s going to be a lot of parties going on once she’s released, and I can’t wait!” Smith-Douglas said, happily missing the entire point of the justice system.
“How do you think she will celebrate?” asked Stefanovic.
“She’ll probably pop a cork of champagne and then roll up a big marijuana joint the size of cigar and then kick back and enjoy herself,” Smith-Douglas laughed. “I don’t know, she’ll have fun anyway.”
“You haven’t been smoking, have you?” Karl asked, bewildered, with not a small amount of panic reaching across his face. “My eyes are red, I know,” she replied.
“…You’re always interesting to talk to.”
Smith-Douglas was later asked by Fairfax if she was serious. “No. It was a joke, don’t you have a sense of humour? … Get a life. Loosen up. Enjoy a joke,” she said.
Smith-Douglas split with the Corby campaign committee years ago. Regardless of how Indonesia takes this joke, the Corby family are probably not her biggest fans today.
